Pat Merriman Peace Garden at Les Cotils was designed in memory of the late Pat Merriman, in collaboration between Architect Andrew Dyke of CCD Ltd. and Landscape Architect Stephen Welch of Welch Design. It was conceived as a public sanctuary; for people recovering from physical or mental ill health, those with autism and dementia, or just as a therapeutic outdoor space to pray, be inspired, and enjoy the sounds, textures and colours of the natural world.
It is situated within an existing walled area of 2,000m² in Les Cotils’ grounds to the north of the main building. The garden has scenic views towards St. Peter Port town, the sea, and the other islands in the Bailiwick. Access is via long sloping ramps to allow for improved accessibility and cater for all ages.
Completion of the garden was made possible as a result of a donation by The Swallow 2018 Charitable Trust, a legacy of Pat Merriman, but also relied heavily on a significant charitable contribution of time and energy by CCD Ltd., Welch Design and RG Falla Ltd.
